Travelled on the Columbia Ferry from Ketchikan, Alaska to Skagway, Alaska
We boarded the ferry from Ketchikan around 8am. The ferry was much larger and nicer than the previous one we were on. We didn't have any trouble getting our bikes strapped down securely for the trip. We were really surprised to see people in tents on the decks right out in the open!! That had to be windy and cold especially at night. We travelled again on the inside passage and saw scenery that was beyond words. Many of the mountains still have snow on the tops and we saw quite a few glaciers on then!! The water was calm, the weather warm and sunny!! We spent a lot of time just sitting in the observation deck watching the scenery, relaxing and talking to other folks on the ship. Pat saw a humpback whale and we saw some bald eagles. The ship made a few stops today where we got off and walked around for about 1/2 hr. The first stop was Wrangell, the second Petersbourg. We spent the night on the ferry and shared a "state room" with Will and Andrea. It was a cute but little room for 4 people, however we a managed quite fine! At 11pm it was still light out and we are now having approx 3 hours of darkness only at night.
